Artisan Craftsmanship

created with passion, presented with pride

In today’s world focused on speed and mass production, it is increasingly rare to find that which is truly unique and beautiful. The Sablewood is from an age that coveted aesthetics and purposeful function.

Timeless
Aesthetic

Everywhere you look, the Sablewood has a story to tell; welcoming you to step back into the charm of a simpler time.

As the old saying goes, “They don’t make them like they used to.” The architecture of 19th century post and beam barns is truly a work of wonder. It’s amazing to look up at the Sablewood’s forty-foot peak and wonder how the craftsman of the day constructed this massive structure without the help of modern-day equipment. We have immaculately restored the impressive building, enhancing the rustic hand-hewn beams with finer details of polished stone floors, warm wood walls, over 50 windows, and exquisite lighting throughout. No detail was overlooked as we hand stained each siding board one by one with three to four coats to achieve the perfect patina that appears original and photographs beautifully in day or night.

While the Charlington, the white barn, was constructed between 2020 and 2021, it is designed with the same attention to detail as grand historical barns. From the inviting entrance of bluestone stairs and stone floral urns to the airy elegance of the lofty white interior supported by massive scissor trusses, the splendor of times past is always present.

Throughout the property we have used the same level of care, maintaining the organic beauty with all natural elements of aged wood, stone, wrought iron, and glass. The architecture of both the Sablewood and Charlington are timeless, so your photos will look equally stunning in years to come as they do today.

Exquisite
Lighting

The captivating centerpiece of the Sablewood barn is the twelve-foot-wide vintage crystal chandelier, which truly needs to be seen in person to be appreciated.

Originally commissioned for a hotel in Miami in the 1920s, the chandelier is a massive piece of art that feels like it was made just for the Sablewood. With over 400 spear crystals and 90 candles, the chandelier fits the space perfectly.

We searched far and wide for wall sconces to complement our one-of-a-kind chandelier and finally realized there is nothing quite like it. Our ambitious Dad, Charlie, took on the challenge investing over 500 hours in design, material sourcing, fabrication, welding, wiring, and painting to construct twelve matching wall sconces creating a cohesive ambiance.

The majority of our lighting is handcrafted by Charlie, who transformed many of the original elements of the property into functional works of art. Our coatroom entrance is illuminated by an equestrian themed chandelier of horseshoes and steel circles, all hand shaped and welded together. The Stables is lit by hanging lanterns and wall sconces he hand-crafted from antique hay pulleys, glass insulators, and reclaimed wood, displaying a unique piece of history in a different light.

In the Charlington, Charlie handmade the oversized French country chandeliers and wall sconces, spinning the wood on a lathe, rolling and cutting each metal leaf, welding, wiring, and finally painting it to perfection.

Handcrafted
Furniture

You won’t find our high-end furniture anywhere else — we designed and handcrafted the majority of it using trees we harvested from our farm.

Not your typical banquet furniture is an understatement. After multiple revisions we created the final version of our French country farm dining tables and selected from our perfect aged lumber to build them. The trestle style allows for larger dining chairs, which created extensive internal debate over chair selection. We just loved the look and comfort of our gorgeous oversized Pottery Barn chairs but knew they’d create significantly more work for our team as they don’t fold or stack like traditional banquet furniture. We talked Charlie, our dad, into designing and building rolling chair carriers to help us manage setup and storage, and the beautiful chairs add comfortable sophistication to your event.

Our refined wooden high top cocktail tables are handcrafted by Charlie from our maple trees, and finished with a natural stain. Always a guest favorite, the two live edge bars are crafted from centuries old trees, and our main bar repurposes wood that was the original horse stalls.

One of our favorite sweetheart table options is a French country style pedestal table handmade by Charlie from Butternut off the farm — spun on a lathe, highlighting the wood’s natural cathedral grain pattern and beautiful luster. We continue to expand the furniture collection with wooden easels and additional tables, all included so you don’t have to rent anything.

Honoring
the Past

…but with a modern twist. Enjoy luxurious modern amenities while being steeped in the history all around you.

Our three large barn doors, complete with refinished antique hardware, are ideal for photo backdrops and creating grand entrances.

A guest favorite, our restrooms are designed to reflect the original horse stables, complete with every authentic detail from the handcrafted doors to the wooden walls, steel bars, and elegant lighting. Adjacent to the restrooms, our 40’ barn beam bench, once the support for a neighboring barn, now serves as fun and functional seating. Even our original horse drawn wooden wagon is repurposed as a flower wagon today.

Our Quarter’s Preparation suite was originally the living quarters for the horse’s grooms. Today it keeps alive the equestrian feel with Charlie’s handmade horseshoe barstools and chandelier. Overlooking the ceremony circle, the Loft preparation suite was once a Tack Shop — we have maintained the original exposed beams and ceilings, adding windows and the gorgeous chandelier, another creation from Charlie’s workshop.

Now updated with a boxwood border, the ceremony circle served as a horse training arena for over fifty years. We loved the circle in the earth, and enhanced it with drainage pipes, a sturdy base layer, and finally the beautiful finish stone for an all-weather surface.

Refined
Nature

Part of honoring the past is planting for the future. We’ve planted hundreds of trees, shrubs, and gardens to add to the natural beauty in all seasons.

Evergreen trees and boxwood uphold their beauty year-round, while hardy seasonal favorites including our hydrangeas and grasses peak from summer to fall, and transform into their muted versions for winter. Every year we plant more spring bulbs, flowering trees, and lilacs, enhancing spring’s allure.

Our Hilltop hayfields have a natural beauty all their own, evolving throughout the seasons. A couple’s favorite for first look and sunset photos, these fields offer a rich diversity of lush greenery and golden hues, perfect for frolicking and capturing stunning sunsets.

Beautiful hardscape features including the granite lined stone walking paths & ceremony circle provide accessibility to our carefully cultivated gardens and ponds. Our stone fountains and surrounding gardens compliment the natural setting with the tranquil sound of water splashing.

We go above and beyond to ensure every couple gets to experience not only our beautiful barns, but also enjoy our refined version of nature. One of the best comments we hear from our couples and guests is, “You have thought of everything.”

“You have thought of everything.”

We love hearing this, and while there is always room for improvement, we have truly spent countless hours thinking through all the possibilities, listening to suggestions, and thoughtfully designing the property and our team to ensure your event will run seamlessly and stand out with details that you won’t find anywhere else.

Come see it in person — no photo does it justice.
